Assignment Editor

KCPQ/KZJO, the FOX O&O in Seattle, WA is seeking a News Assignment Editor to join our team. Responsibilities include researching and developing fresh story ideas into pitches, and newsgathering for all our news platforms. The candidate must have the ability to respond to breaking news and verify information for television newscasts and digital platforms. Monitor news wires, police and fire scanners, and social media for breaking news. Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment; be able to multi-task, be a problem solver as well as a strategic thinker.

 

The candidate will be responsible for assigning photographers and reporters to news stories and managing logistics as well. The ideal candidate is an energetic and effective communicator. Must have the ability to develop strong contacts with officials and sources in order to advance stories beyond a press release. The candidate will build relationships with Assignment Desks at Fox affiliates and coordinate breaking news coverage when necessary. The assignment editor also collaborates and shares content with FOX Television Station units including but not limited to FOX Weather, FOX Soul and FOX Crime. Must be a strong competitor and track what the competition is doing. Must stay on top of the news locally, nationally and around the world.  Must have strong social media skills. Must be technically savvy and computer literate. Other duties as deemed appropriate and assigned.

 

Four (4) year college degree with emphasis in Communications or Journalism preferred. Candidate must possess at least two (2) years of prior Assignment Desk Editor experience or Bachelor’s degree in lieu of experience.  Candidate must be able to work flexible hours; overnights, early mornings, late nights, weekends and holidays may be required. Must also possess excellent news judgement, strong sense of urgency in coverage decision-making and display an aggressive and competitive newsgathering style.

Anchor/Reporter

FOX 13 and FOX 13+, the Fox O&O duopoly in Seattle, Washington is seeking a News Anchor/Reporter to join our news team. The ideal candidate will possess strong presentation skills with the ability to enterprise unique stories as well as cover breaking and hard news. Strong live skills are required. The candidate will display professionalism and personality both on and off air.

 

This position requires a strong work ethic, broad knowledge of current affairs and the ability to work effectively in a team environment. In addition, this anchor/reporter must develop sources, and pitch compelling, enterprise stories. Candidates must have proven presence on social media and be as comfortable in the social media world as they are in broadcasting. The candidate must operate with a high degree of journalistic ethics, emotional intelligence and must demonstrate the ability to develop and nurture a natural connection to people and the community.

 

You must be a self-starter with a great attitude and a desire to win. We require that you are able to work independently in a high pressure, fast-paced environment, gathering information to discern the news worthiness of events. When anchoring, you should be engaging with your co-anchors and the viewer. You should be able to go off-script in breaking news situations and not worry about a TelePrompTer. When reporting, you will research thoroughly, write clearly, and produce stories that are compelling and memorable. You must be a voracious news consumer, engaged in our community and participate in station sponsored events. Other duties as assigned and deemed appropriate.

 

A minimum of five years’ experience at a local television broadcast media outlet as an anchor/reporter producing and delivering local content is preferred. Must have excellent editorial judgment and have the ability to produce content on all newsroom platforms, including television and digital media. This is a full-time position with a regular schedule, but the news is a 24/7 environment which could mean occasional other shifts as news events or staffing needs warrant. Senior Producer

FOX 13, the FOX Television Stations Owned & Operated Duopoly in Seattle, is looking for a Senior Producer to join our dynamic evening team.  The successful candidate will play a key role in supervising evening newscasts and planning content for their success, including our marquee 10pm newscast. The role will be expected to participate and help lead in the editorial process and produce a timely, compelling newscast that is editorially and visually dynamic. This position may be required to produce content/newscasts for news specials, possibly field produce, and assign stories for associate producers and ENG staff with video production.

 

We are looking for a competitor who can collaborate with the staff to perform at the highest levels every day. Must be able to work in fast-paced environment under specific time constraints while demonstrating exceptional creativity. Must be self-motivated and work productively on a team. Will work closely with news management to continually evolve newscasts. This is a regular shift and daypart, but the news is a 24/7 world that could include occasional other shifts as needed for breaking news, vacation relief or other circumstances.

News Reporter

KCPQ-TV and KZJO-TV, the FOX O&O duopoly in Seattle, Washington, is seeking an on-air general assignment News Reporter who is passionate about breaking news, enterprise reporting, and dynamic storytelling. If you are an experienced news reporter who can deliver a great live shot, we’d like to see your reel. The candidate must want to own the big story and develop sources. This position requires the ability to effectively break news online and on social media, while also delivering live and taped reports to our TV viewers. The news reporter should also be a top-notch writer, who can carefully match words to video and other visual elements.

 

The successful candidate should have about five years’ experience on camera in a mid-to-large level TV market. Our news reporters possess the highest standards of journalistic integrity in a major American television market. Accuracy and fairness in news reporting is a must – both online and on television.

 

The successful candidate should have extensive experience in live reporting during breaking news and other unscripted situations. The ability to edit or shoot video is an added bonus, but not a deal-breaker. ENGINEERING

Maintenance Engineer

FOX 13 and FOX 13+, the Fox O&O duopoly in Seattle, WA has an opening for a broadcast Maintenance Engineer to join our technology team. Our maintenance engineers have a unique mix of solid IT skills as well as television broadcast systems experience due to the variety of systems we use. Troubleshooting ability in IT and video/audio/ASI is a key skill to get systems back online quickly.

 

In this role you will work closely with our news and other departments to keep all news production and broadcast operations running smoothly. Our maintenance engineers maintain everything from transmitter sites, building systems, networking systems, computer systems, IT security, and signal creation and distribution. Duties/Responsibilities

  • Perform regular software updates to broadcast systems to keep them up to date.
  • Perform regular health checks of virtual systems in a VMWare environment.
  • Network monitoring and scanning of networks to proactively identify problems.
  • Maintain, operate, and repair station equipment.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on equipment and facilities as needed to ensure optimum operation and performance of the equipment.
  • Review preventative maintenance schedules and perform maintenance, inspections, and adjustments as needed.
  • Do light maintenance like replacing light bulbs, and other repairs to keep our studio and transmitter facilities in good condition.
  • Be proactive in identifying underlying problems in the plant and fixing those problems.
  • Diagnose and repair faulty equipment and/or systems down to the lowest practical level.
  • Utilize test equipment, technical manuals, and schematic diagrams as part of the diagnostic and troubleshooting process.
  • Effectively communicate with and listen to operators, producers, writers, directors, other staff and/or clients to diagnose and troubleshoot problems in a timely manner.
  • Accurately detail and document work, projects, installations, daily repair, and work in progress, to ensure information is updated and accurate records are maintained.
  • Order and prioritize work assignments without supervision to ensure smooth operation of the facility.
  • Contact vendors, suppliers, and manufacturers as necessary to obtain repair documentation, information, and parts as needed.
  • Occasionally drive to remote work sites on logging roads in adverse weather conditions.

 

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to efficiently troubleshoot, analyze, and correct malfunctioning equipment and systems.
  • Read and understand line drawings and technical manuals as reference documents to ensure optimum operation and performance of equipment.
  • Read and understand station drawings, understand station signal paths, utilize test equipment (oscilloscope, phabrix, spectrum analyzers), terminate wires (coaxial and network), and troubleshoot fiber connections.

 

Education and Experience

  • Minimum three (3) years’ IT experience and two (2) to three (3) years’ experience as a Broadcast Maintenance Engineer.
  • WA State driver’s license and driving record in good standing.
  • Experience with low- and high-power transmitters and transmitter site maintenance preferred.
  • Experience with tower oversight and maintenance preferred.
  • IT certifications desired.

 

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift weights up to 50 lbs., frequently bend, kneel, stoop, and reach.
  • Ability to occasionally drive distances of up to several hours to maintain equipment at remote worksites.
  • Ability to stand for long periods (1+ hour).

Streaming Sales & Insights Specialist

This Specialist role is one part marketer, one part data analyst and is fully involved from the pre-sales process all the way through to post ad-campaign reporting.

 

Our ideal candidate for this job has worked in local media sales (not necessarily as a direct seller), is familiar with the ever-changing world of streaming advertising, possesses excellent communication skills, and is adept at analyzing advertising performance data.

 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Working with the station Sales team to create compelling advertising packages focused on delivering results for our customers.
  • Monitoring ongoing campaign results within the FLX platform.
  • Developing insights-focused, data-driven stories as part of our post-campaign reporting.
  • Accompanying the Sales team on both new business pitches and ongoing account meetings.

Sales Manager

Reporting to the VP/General Sales Manager, the Sales Manager directs and leads both a team of local Account Executives and National sales team’s efforts for the Seattle O&O properties.

 

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Works with GSM and other members of sales management team to develop and implement strategy for the Sales department that will achieve budgeted goals with regards to Linear, Digital, OTT, new business, and sports/special opportunities.
  • Hire, retain, develop, and mentor sales staff to effectively sell all products in our liner, digital, and OTT portfolio.
  • Provide market insight and strategy to help coordinate sales strategies through pricing and inventory management.
  • Grow existing and develop new revenue streams through leading the sales of local news, sports, special events, new business development, and digital sales opportunities.
  • Assigns accounts and advertising agencies to local sales staff and establishes individual sales quotas.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships.
  • Meets with existing advertisers and solicits new advertisers for broadcast and digital through direct calls on accounts and agencies.
  • Hold weekly update meetings with Account Executives to monitor sales goals and review performance.
  • Keeps VP, General Sales Manager fully informed of all account activity through weekly and monthly pending and forecasts reports.
  • Responsible for performance management of Account Executives and administrative employee(s) within the Sales department.
