Sales Manager

Reporting to the VP/General Sales Manager, the Sales Manager directs and leads both a team of local Account Executives and National sales team’s efforts for the Seattle O&O properties.

 

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Works with GSM and other members of sales management team to develop and implement strategy for the Sales department that will achieve budgeted goals with regards to Linear, Digital, OTT, new business, and sports/special opportunities.
  • Hire, retain, develop, and mentor sales staff to effectively sell all products in our liner, digital, and OTT portfolio.
  • Provide market insight and strategy to help coordinate sales strategies through pricing and inventory management.
  • Grow existing and develop new revenue streams through leading the sales of local news, sports, special events, new business development, and digital sales opportunities.
  • Assigns accounts and advertising agencies to local sales staff and establishes individual sales quotas.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships.
  • Meets with existing advertisers and solicits new advertisers for broadcast and digital through direct calls on accounts and agencies.
  • Hold weekly update meetings with Account Executives to monitor sales goals and review performance.
  • Keeps VP, General Sales Manager fully informed of all account activity through weekly and monthly pending and forecasts reports.
  • Responsible for performance management of Account Executives and administrative employee(s) within the Sales department.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Full knowledge and understanding of ratings analysis, effective inventory pricing, commercial traffic scheduling and research products such as Scarborough, Kantar, Media Monitors, ComScore, Nielsen, etc.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft applications as well as Wide Orbit, Nielsen, and ComScore.
  • Technical skills- proficient in Microsoft Office Products, Strata, and Wide Orbit Traffic/sales.

 

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year university or college in a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in media/advertising sales with Local and/or National television sales experience

 

Pursuant to state and local pay disclosure requirements, the pay range for this role, with final offer amount dependent on education, skills, experience, and location is: $200,000.00-225,000.00 annually for Washington. NEWS

Digital Content Creator

FOX 13 Seattle is looking for a highly skilled and motivated Digital Content Creator to join our dynamic team. As a leading news organization, we strive to deliver engaging and impactful content to our audience across various digital platforms. In this role, your primary focus will be on video optimization and SEO strategies to enhance our online presence and ensure maximum reach.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Video Production and Optimization:
  • Produce and curate high-quality videos for online platforms, including news stories, features, interviews, and promotional content.
  • Edit and enhance videos using industry-standard software to produce visually appealing and engaging content.
  • Manage video library and layout of multiple platforms including news website, mobile app, FOX LOCAL connected TV app, and YouTube.
  • Optimize videos for search engines and social media platforms to maximize visibility and organic reach.
  • Implement SEO best practices in video descriptions, titles, and tags to improve discoverability and drive traffic.
  • Monitor video performance and engagement metrics to identify opportunities for improvement and growth.

 

  1. SEO Strategy Development:
  • Collaborate with the Digital Content team to develop and implement SEO strategies that align with our content goals.
  • Conduct keyword research to identify relevant topics and optimize video content accordingly.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest SEO trends and algorithm changes to ensure our content remains competitive.
  • Analyze SEO performance metrics and provide recommendations for improvement to increase organic traffic.

 

 

  1. Local Journalism:
  • Work closely with other newsroom journalists like assignment editors, reporters, producers and photographers to publish, copy edit and update articles, videos and social media posts.
  • Collaborate with others to strategize the best platform for certain content (some stories might be great for digital media only, others should be the lead story on TV at 5pm)
  • Follow the highest standards of journalistic integrity when publishing, sharing, reporting or developing news stories.
  • Work with the FOX Television Stations’ group content team to coordinate coverage of national stories.
  • Develop strategies to promote video content through email newsletters, partnerships, and other distribution channels.

 

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Digital Media, Journalism, Communications, or a related field preferred.
  • Proven experience in video production, editing, and optimization.
  • In-depth knowledge of video SEO best practices, including keyword research, metadata optimization, and video distribution.
  • Familiarity with industry-standard video editing software, such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or similar.
  • Strong understanding of SEO principles and trends.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to multitask and work under tight deadlines.

News Reporter

KCPQ-TV and KZJO-TV, the FOX O&O duopoly in Seattle, Washington, is seeking an on-air general assignment News Reporter who is passionate about breaking news, enterprise reporting, and dynamic storytelling. If you are an experienced news reporter who can deliver a great live shot, we’d like to see your reel. The candidate must want to own the big story and develop sources. This position requires the ability to effectively break news online and on social media, while also delivering live and taped reports to our TV viewers. The news reporter should also be a top-notch writer, who can carefully match words to video and other visual elements.

 

The successful candidate should have about five years’ experience on camera in a mid-to-large level TV market. Our news reporters possess the highest standards of journalistic integrity in a major American television market. Accuracy and fairness in news reporting is a must – both online and on television.

 

The successful candidate should have extensive experience in live reporting during breaking news and other unscripted situations. The ability to edit or shoot video is an added bonus, but not a deal-breaker. This is a full-time position with a regular shift and schedule, but the news is a 24/7 world and that could occasionally include other shifts as breaking news or staffing changes warrant. Must possess a valid credit card and driver’s license.

News Editor

FOX 13 and FOX 13+ the FOX O&O Duopoly in Seattle is seeking a dynamic video editor to join our news team. We are looking for someone who will do more than just lay shots onto a timeline. The successful candidate will be a collaborator who transcends all newsroom workgroups – to ensure our stories come to life with the best possible visuals. We are seeking an editor who is familiar with a diverse array of video editing techniques. For example – video used in a fast-paced nightly sportscast will be cut differently than a serious 3-camera anchor interview. What’s more – your work will be showcased in a variety of media: television newscasts, digital media, specials & documentaries, and social media posts.

 

Our editing team uses Edius to cut video, but experience on similar non-linear editing platforms like Avid or Final Cut is also acceptable. You should be familiar with basic journalistic editing functions, as well as advanced techniques and effects that can enhance traditional video. This would include products in the Adobe Suite. The successful candidate will possess superior editorial judgement, work well in a deadline-driven environment, and be capable of editing video quickly, accurately and creatively. This is a full-time position with a regular shift schedule, but the news is a 24/7 world that could include different hours or shifts if warranted for breaking news, special coverage, vacation relief or holidays.

Senior Producer

FOX 13, the FOX Television Stations Owned & Operated Duopoly in Seattle, is seeking an experienced journalist and news producer to join our newsroom team as senior producer on “Good Day Seattle.” The ideal candidate will be a skilled “rundown doctor” who likes to try something new every day and encourage others to do the same: dress up a lead story, get creative with weather coverage, dig for sidebar/breakout content, or utilize untapped resources to make each newscast pop.

 

The successful candidate should also be a terrific writer, with particular attention to lead writing, tease writing, and copy editing. The senior producer will not be assigned to a specific newscast on a regular basis but will help manage a strong line producing team elevate their game even more. We’re looking for someone who can know the rundown(s) like the back of their hand and be able to make necessary changes as the morning unfolds – in a diplomatic way that endeavors to ensure all our bases remain covered.

 

The successful candidate should have 5-7 years line producing in a mid to major media market. If you have good EP experience in a smaller market, that’s ok too! We are looking for a team player who is a champion of our daily journalism efforts. This role is focused primarily on the production of our weekday morning news block (weekdays 4:30-10 a.m.). However, the news business is a 24/7 world, and that schedule could change occasionally for various needs including vacation relief, holiday coverage, breaking news or other special events.

ENGINEERING

Master Control Technician

FOX 13 in Seattle, WA has an immediate opening for a Master Control Technician. This position is directly responsible for maintaining our on-air look and monitoring the output of multiple TV stations at our local Seattle facility while ensuring all FCC requirements are met. The Master Control Technician is also responsible for ensuring content is ingested and prepared for air well ahead of airtime and taking measures to get re-feeds when required. Communicating continuously with Traffic, News, Programming, and Creative Service Departments verbally and by e-mails is critical to this position. The successful candidate must also master our on-air automation system and assist other operators as needed. Clear communication with Engineering is critical in this position in order to solve issues when they arise.

 

Responsibilities

  • Quality Assurance of program and spot media.
  • Verify playlists and events are correct and make changes when required.
  • Execute breaking news cut-ins and roll breaks for live events.
  • Steer satellite dishes and tune satellite receivers for feeds and live events.
  • Transfer media into automation system and prep for playback.
  • Notify Engineering in the event of an on-air technical problem.
  • Position requires performance of other job-related duties as assigned.
  • Assist Engineering when requested.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

  • 1-year minimum experience in a master control environment is required.
  • Ability to react quickly and remain calm when problems arise.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Must be able to work all shifts.
  • Must be willing to assist Engineering with pulling cable, mounting equipment, lifting gear, etc., when requested.
